“Kudos to Aaron Pott who appears to have put himself in the top hierarchy of Napa Valley’s most illustrious winemaking consultants.” - Robert Parker
This wine is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, predominantly from See clone cuttings from Napa Valley’s famed Backus vineyard. Cabernet clones 191 and 337 contribute complexity and 2% Petit Verdot adds aromatics, color and lush notes of blueberry. Aged for 22 months in new French oak barrels. Aromas reveal black fruit, toasted fennel, tea leaf and dark cocoa. Flavors evoke memories of berry pie filling accented by bright, mouth-watering notes of cranberry and currant. A silky weight encompasses the palate and chewy tannins linger on the finish.
This wine has aromas of red cherry and cedar, with a hint of spicy clove. The velvety mid palate and smooth tannins carry flavors of raspberry and mocha with a hint of toffee. Aged 22 months in French oak barrels, this wine will evolve niceley in the cellar for ten years or more.
This fruit for this wine is sourced from Scopus vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, a high elevation (700ft), eastern-facing slope with red clay and rocky soils and foggy summer mornings. Ulises Valdez farms the vineyard and Aaron Pott makes the wine with Elizabeth Tangney.
