Sympa Cabernet Sauvignon
Sympa is our flagship Cabernet Sauvignon and the first wine made at Saint Helena Winery in the year 2000. "Sympa" is our proprietary name for this reserve-level estate-grown wine.
Sympa is a big, bold Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with complexity and intensity, yet approachable with generous character. It is consistently lauded by the most esteeemed wine critics, and a winery fan favorite.
Our estate vineyard is situated at the east end of Pratt Avenue in the Saint Helena appellation of Napa Valley. Our soil type is Bale Loam with three variations among the 13 acres planted in vines. The heart of our Sympa Cabernet Sauvignon is fruit grown on our south parcel, “Block One,” an ancient river bed where the loam has more sand, gravel and stones, causing the vines to struggle and produce smaller clusters and berries. The vines are cane pruned and hand-tended to yield two clusters per shoot. This vineyard yields fewer than two tons of fruit per acre. The Cabernet Sauvignon clones in Block One are See, 337 and 191. The See clone bud wood is from Napa Valley's famed Backus Vineyard. Sympa often contains a small percentage of Petit Verdot, also from Block One.
Our vineyard is farmed by our estate crew, led by winemaker and vineyard manager, Lindsey Wallingford.
